Entry #1: Signposts and the Exposition

Now that you're shin- or knee- deep in your novel, share a few things about it. For starters, the exposition introduced you to the main characters, setting, and perhaps, the central conflict. Well, what are they? Who's the protagonist? What's the problem?

After giving us the background information on your book, let us know if you have identified any SIGNPOSTS, you know, things in the story that draw your attention and make you slam on the breaks. If you've spotted any signposts, let us know what you'll be looking for as the book continues.

WELCOME TO THE BLOG!!!

The book I was reading is called It's Kind of a Funny Story. Its about this kid, Craig Gilner, and he us in the end of 8th grade in the begining of the book. He lives in Manhattan and is at the top of his class, so he tries to get into one of Manhattans top, and most prestigious high school, Executive Pre-Professional. So he studies hard to get into the school, he takes the test and gets 800, out of 800. and when school starts things start going going down hill, he hangs out with his best-friend, Aaron, who has an acess to pot, so Craig, Aaron, Aarons girlfriend Nia and some others start smoking pot together, they dont get caught, but Craig has other problems he can't keep his food down and he has had multiple theripists. One night he feels so bad that he comes up with a final plan, he'd run his bike to the Brooklin Bridge and jump. Thats it, done, fin, he'd be found later on dead in the Hudson River or the Ocean. But as he's getting ready he realized that he more to care about like his mother and father and sister and how it would tear them apart, but he tells himself to stop thinking of others feelings and think only of himself. But he remembers his mothers book, a book with phone numbers that may help him, he calls a number speaks to someone gets transfered to 1-800-SUISIDE and speaks with a woman who tells him that Suiside is a medical emergency, so he walks to the hospital 3 blocks over and cheaks himself in. There he meets many interesting characters, like Noelle who cut he face with sissors. I'm going to cut short here because, although I have read the entire book I don't want to spoil the ending, though I will tell you that the author, Ned Vinzzie (cheak spelling), spent five days in a phyicatrick ward of a hospitial, so the experiances Craig are based on Vinzzie's personal account.

Another signpost in my is when Edward is in the Enchanted world of the other book and he is attacked by the shadow monster the thing that "the boy's" father created in the book. The shadow monster asks for Edward's darkest wish (which is for Mr.Bogger's evil dog to die and for Mr.Bogger (Edwards least favorite teacher) to be fired. Then the monster grants his wish in the worst way ever. Another signpost is when will lied to the headmaster of the boarding school about the other book even when Edward begged him to tell him. Also when Edward found out that Guy was the rightful gaurdian of the other book was a signpost because Guy was Edward's worst enemy. Another signpost is that when Edward had let Will read the book and found out that the shadow monster had tried to grant Will's deepest wish.

Hi my name is Lakshmi G. I'm in per.5 and my book is called the Other Book.
In my book there is a boy called Edward who goes to a boarding school with his cousin Will and his friend Mary. Edward loves to read and he is the leader of most of the boys at the school. A long time before this however there was a boy whose father tried to destroy everthing with the book of Merlin and Vixen (the other book). Just in time to stop the father from killing "the boy" Merlin's assistants kill the father. "The boy" hides the other book under a piller. Back in the future Edward finds the othr book and learns of it's secrets. But a woman named Lady Anna is after the book to use it for her own nefarious perpouses. So now Edward and his frieand and allies must protect teh book and find the rightful gaurdian of the book.
One of the signposts in the book is when Edward reads the book and is sucked into the enchanted world of the other book. In the enchanted world he finds this knight who is supposed to guild him. But the knight can't leave the book. Another signpost was when Edward was lead into a freezer by a imposter of Mary who turns into an icemonster who tries to kill him.Another signpost in my is when Edward is in the Enchanted world of the other book and he is attacked by the shadow monster the thing that "the boy's" father created in the book. The next when he went to school the whole school was talking about how the bakery got robbed by a criminally insane man that the police were unable to catch. Then he realized was this game that he had controlling reality. When he went home he started playing the game he made again. This time he stole $4,500 from another store. In the game the character he was hide the money under a leaf with a pine cone on top. The next day he was driving by the area the character hid it in the game. He told the limo driver to stop. Then he ran up the hill and looked into the trees and there he saw leafs with a properly placed pine cone on top of it. He was astonished as he looked at the leaf with the pine cone. He picked up all the leafs and found $4,500 that he stole in the game. Then he knew that the game was controlling reality as he played it.

I'm reading New Moon by Stephanie Myer. This book mostly takes place in Forks,a small rainy town in Washington. Bella Swan is in love with a vampire named Edward. Bella is very upset on her 18th birthday because Edward is, and always will be 17. She wants him to turn her into a vampire so she could be with him, but he doesn't want her to miss out on a normal life. Edward's family of vampires throws Bella a party. While opening Edward's present, Bella gives herself a papercut, and Edward jumps on top of her to protect her, making her get glass in her arm and bleed more. The newest addition to the vampire family, Jasper tries to attack Bella when he smells the blood, but the family saved her. A signpost that I have discovered is when, after that experience, Edward decides that it is best for Bella if she lives her life with out him. He takes everything that he ever gave her and left.

I am reading New Moon by Stephanie Meyer. This story is about a girl named Bella Swan who is in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire. The story takes place in a little town called Forks. Edward's family, who are also vampires, throw Bella a party for her birthday. While opening some presents she gets a papercut, and so he tries to save her by jumping on top of her, but instead glass gets into her arm and makes her bleed more. Edward's brother, Jasper, tries to attack her because he smells her blood, but luckily they save her. Bella is not happy on her birthday because Edward is not happy, which makes her not happy too. There is one signpost I have noticed. Edward thinks that it is best if he stays away from Bella, so he leaves her with her memories, and takes off.

Hi. I am reading the "Alex Rider" series by Anthony Horowitz. I started reading last Friday, and am now on the fifth book in the series, "Scorpia". But instead of summarizing the whole series in general, I will give a synopsis of the first book: Stormbreaker.
The takes place in London, with the main character being, as you've guessed it, Alex Rider. He awakes one morning to be greeted with some bad news: his uncle, who was also his legal guardian has died in a car crash. Alex is stunned, but at the same time has suspisions. For some reason in his mind it didn't add up. When attending the funeral, he saw a man walk out of a limousine, he saw he had a gun. This aroused his suspisions even more, and upon arriving home, he saw two men run out of his house and into a car.
That confirmed it. He saw the company logo which led him to a junkyard, where he found his uncles car. There was no sign of an accident, and the bullet holes in the windshield and driver's seat
door were enough to lead him to believe something was wrong. This then led him to the bank where his uncle worked. In the bank he was escorted into a room and locked in until further notice. He knew he had to get out, so he made a daring climb out the window, around a flagpole, and into another window, all sixty-two stories up. He then finally found out his uncle had nothing to do with a bank, but worked for a spy organization called MI6.
Ultimately, and predictably, they took him in and trained him as a spie so that he could infiltrate a place of suspicion. There was a man, Herod Sayle, who was making a new revolutionary computer called the Stormbreaker. When Alex found out what he was really up to, it was up to him to save England schoolchildren from the smallpox. He then does something even more daring then before, which greatly effected the amazing outcome of the story.

Yes, I know Mr.Haase, that this was a drag, and that I completely misused the word synopsis, but I like this idea.

Overall, the book and whole series is great, with many cliffhangers and other things that had my face buried in these books. Anthony Horowitz is a great writer, and hopefully you can find that out for yourself!

The book I am reading is called
"The Princess Acadamy", by Shannon Hale. During the exposition of this book, the setting and the characters were introduced (obviously). Something that drew my attention in the first chapter was when the protaganist was recollecting a story her father told her when bandits "attacked" their mountain community and how they ran away screaming. I know from the synopsis on the back of the book that there is some kind of danger, which will be the climax of the story. Tht signpost got me thinking that maybe bandits will attack the mountain again...hmm.

The book that I am reading it called So B. It. This book is about a mom who as a problem with her brain and her daughter Heidi wants to know more about her past. Heidi becomes very concerned and is trying to fnd away to figure out who her family is. She also becomes very interested and concerned about this one word her mom says. This is soof. She hears that word in her head all day long and all she wants to do is figure out what it means. A signpost that I saw was the way that Bernie (the girl who helps take care of Heidi and her mom) has a fear of going outdoors. I wonder if that will ever pass. For instince in case if an emergency. I found that strange. So Heidi is trying to figure out what this strange word means and find out about her past.

My book is called The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The story is set in a country named Panem, which was previously North America. North America has been destroyed in some sort of bombing and war, and the remains of it is named Panem. Panem has twelve districts, and roughly half of them, if not more, are not doing well financially. Many people live in poverty, but mostly in District 12. This is where the title kicks in. Fairly early into the book we are introduced to the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are an annual event held through out Panem. Young Adults from ages twelve to eighteen are unwillingly entered into the games. In wealthier districts, it is an honor to participate for the Hunger Games, where in other districts it is a death sentence. Two people are selected (a male and a female) at random from each district and are sent off the the Capitol where they will live in luxary for the next few days before they are sent off to the games. Here the tributes also practice and get as much help as they can from professionals on how to survive in the games. The Hunger Games is a competition made up of 24 tributes. The tributes have to survive and live through whatever they can, and fight to the death. The last one standing is the winner. A pretty long plot, I know, but that's not even the half of it. Our main characters name is Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen year old girl from District 12. Katniss has basically brought up her younger sister since she was twelve and her father was killed, leaving her mother in depression. She has risked her life many times to go into the woods, where no one is aloud to go, and hunt for food for her family. She goes to school, hunts for food, bargains for the food she cannot kill, and keeps her little sister out of trouble. On the evening of the reaping (which is when they pick the names for the Hunger Games) all Katniss worries about is her name getting picked. But when her twelve year old sister is picked she volunteers to go in her place. So she's off to the Hunger Games with the last boy she would have wanted to come with her, Peeta. Peeta is the one boy who gave her hope after her father died and her family had no food or money. He gave her many loafs of bread from his parents bakery and after that saw a dandelion, her special sign of hope. Katniss and Peeta never talked about this night, but Katniss knows it's not going to be easy killing someone who basically saved your life. When they get to the Capitol, Peeta is more than friendly and extremly nice, making Katniss feel uncomfortable. Their entrance at the games, which is actually a few days before it starts, is a success and it's the first time in so long that District 12 has made a good impression. There's actually a chance that a person from District 12 may win the games this year, especially with Katniss and Peeta. The days are numbered before the Hunger Games begin, and Katniss starts getting snappy and irritated with Peeta, but she doesnt know why. How will she react when the games begin? How will she react towards Peeta? Will they be a team, or turn enemies? My reading stopped there, and I am extremely curious to what goes on in the games and how Katniss handles the Peeta problem. Suzanne Collins is a brilliant writer, and leaves you suspenseful ever chapter, wanting more.

I have actually come up to a few sign posts so far.
1. Katniss has these weird and mixed reactions towards Peeta, and it makes me wonder how Peeta feels about Katniss and how their behaviors change or don't change during the games. I wonder if they team up and help eachother out, and who will be the last one standing.
2. Katniss has a best friend at home and I wonder what role he will have in her life when/if she gets home.
3. I wonder how Katniss's family handles life without her considering they could barely get on before.

Well, I guess we'll see what happens. This book is amazing, I recommend it to anyone!

I am reading is Playing With The Boys by Liz Tigelaar. In the book, a girl named Lucy has moved to another state and she's very shy about making friends. She decides to join the soccer team because it'll help her make friends easier and be part of a group, which made her feel special. But, then she doesn't make the team and the coach tells her to join the boy's football team because she has an amazing kick and the football coach was lookig for a kicker. Lucy tries out for the football team, but she faces some problems. One of the many problems that she faces is the fact that people don't believe in her and what she can do. They all think that she's just a girl and can't play football. Some other main characters are her father, who plays a big role in Lucy's social and sports life, and her friends in her new school. All of this takes place in Malibu in Los Angeles, California at her high school, Beachwood High School, and her new home.

Hi! I am reading the 3rd book in the series "Pretty Little Liars". So far, the book is great. The backround is that there were five best friends, Ali, Emily, Aria, Spencer and Hanna. It was the summer of 7th grade, going into 8th, when one night, Ali disapeared. The 3rd book takes place 3 years later, when the girls have all gone their seperate ways. Theyre in 11th grade. They find out that Ali was murderd, but nobody knows who killed her! All of a sudden They all start getting weird text messages and emails about their personal stuff that nobody knew about but Ali. The texts and emails are signed with the letter "A", so they all think Ali is back, and ready to haunt them. But ofcourse Ali is dead, so it cant be her! There are so many signposts in this book. For example, Emily was hanging out with a girl who her parents didn't approve of. She was sure that nobody was there, but when she turned around, there was a note stuck to her that said "I see you- A". I would really like to find out who killed Ali, and who A really is!!
I recommend this book to teenage girls.

I guess we will see what happends next!

I am reading Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. This is a true story of Jon’s experience. It is a book about Jon as a journalist and he is asked to write an article about Mount Everest, to do that he will have to go to Nepal to go to Everest’s Base Camp. But, it has been a dream of his to climb to the top of the mountain so he convinces the magazine he works for to send him to the top. They agree to do this for Jon. Something ironic about this is that they agreed to send him and pay the full expense including training to get him prepared rather then ask someone else write the article for less then half the price. Once in Nepal, Jon meets up with the tour group led by Rob Hall, one of the greatest mountain climbers/ tour guides of his time. Trying to get to the Base Camp was a challenge. They had to travel up about 17500 feet to get to the Base Camp and the summit of Everest is at 29000 feet. While trying to get to Base Camp, four Sherpa’s went up a little earlier to set up their supplies and tents so they will be prepared. But, that is when crisis began to start.

When he finishs learning about magic and more he heads back to surda where a war is being held. Here he battles the empire which is the group he and the many thousands of people had gathered to take down. I won't spoil the book if you haven't read it so i won't tell the ending.

The signpost to me in this story is when eragon meets another dragon rider which he believed he was the only one left. This shows me that he is gonna learn a lot of new things and become very strong.

The book I am reading is called Silent to the Bone. My book is about a boy around 13 years old named Branwell or Bran for short. By accident one day Branwell dropped his baby sister on her head, so he called 911. When the operator picked up Branwell was unable to speak. The nanny watching him and his sister tried to get him to speak but he just would not or could not. From that day on Bran was unable to speak and was in a juvenile jail because of the actions he took with his sister. For the next chapter or two many lawyers, relatives, and friends tried to get Bran to speak but he would not. Branwell's best friend found a way of communicating with him. He writes words on cards and has Bran wink at the card he wants to hear about. They are not sure if Bran cannot speak because he is in shock, or if he is unwilling to speak for some reason. Many people in his life have different views on him not speaking but some think it has to do with what has happened in his life in the past few years. Branwell's mother died and his father remarried. His father had his sister with his new wife. Most believe that it has to do with all of these strange events. Maybe Bran well doesn’t like his new mother or baby sister? A signpost I found was that Branwell keeps picking people and not objects that are on the cards. I am going to look for other people Bran picks and see if there is a relationship. I also am wondering if maybe they were all present for a certain event that is preventing Branwell from speaking.

Hi Mr. Haase!!! The book i was reading(finished reading) was called The True Benedict Arnold by someone who i forgot because i returned the book to the library already =(. Just because it is a biography doesnt mean it is boring. I actually thought it was very cool because it described all the battles of the revolution that benedict participated in. This book helped me review my 5th-6th grade social studies as well!=D
Did you know that Benedict was a good friend of George Washington before his betrayal? Benedict was also probably the GREATEST military leader in the entire revolution since he was able to capture so many forts and didnt lose even one battle(dont take my word for it since im not a good reader but i am pretty sure that he didnt really lose...maybe a few ties...). What made him change sides was that he married a loyalist for his second wife and also because of Congress. Many supplies and most of the food his division had were bought with his OWN MONEY. If the lunch ladies were that nice, maybe people wouldnt complain about the food anymore. Anyway, Benedict betrayed America because Congress owed him about 143,000 dollars and another 20,0000 for buying his men ammo and food. Furthermore, Congress denied his superior military skills and promoted 5 other men to ranks that were above Benedict. Disgraced, humiliated, and having half the riches he once controlled, an unhappy Benedict changed sides...you HAVE to know the ending unless you failed Social Studies about 5 times in a row... xP

There werent many sign posts since it is nonfiction but i did manage to find a few. One was when Benedict first started to have secretive obligations with Major Andre of the British army. My spider senses were tingling and i knew that benedict was about to betray. thats basically it

The Planet Veelox is under trouble because people are not caring about real life but about a virtual life they control. Now is the prefect time for Saint Dane to attack. Although I am only in the first couple chapters of my book, so far it seems to be very interesting. This is because my book has to do with the topic of survival, which I happen to love. The book “Brians’s Winter” by Gary Paulson is based on another one of his books called “Hatchet”. The book that I am currently reading is NOT a sequel of the book Hatchet; it explains what would really happen to the main character, Brian, if he had not been rescued from the wilderness.
Signposts can potentially make stories exciting and suspenseful when used correctly. By reading this book, one can tell that Gary Paulson really knows how to use signposts in his writing. After reading about ¼ of my book, most of the signposts are really about animals. For example, when Brian is in his shelter, he is welcomed by a bear that seems to arrive out of no where. This bear then tears apart Brian’s shelter and voraciously thrashes at him. Brian ends up unconscious beside the lake, about 100 yards from his shelter. Another similar signpost in the story happens when Brian is once again in his shelter making arrows (for hunting). At this particular time, Brian is now welcomed by the tail of a skunk aiming at his face and possessions. What ends up happening, I will leave to you. I do not want to ruin too much of the book.
As I continue to read this book, I will definitely be looking out for some certain things. I would like to pay attention to what the signposts actually are. I would like to know if they still involve animals or involve something that I just would not expect. If you are a fan of fictional survival stories, I highly recommend not just this book, but many of the other books of Gary Paulson.

hulnedhi my name is constantine and I'm in period one. In my book,"Until We Meet Again," it explains how a family of four got back together by the parents going to counseling and made the two girls, Jamee & Darcy, very happy. They move to the house down the block to help Gramma and give her what she needs. Darcy goes to high school and has a boy friend that has too move to another state because of his dads job. This tragic moment shook her because this summer was suposed to be their first summer together, but soon seemed not to be. As Darcy's sister was heading home, an old friend from Darcy's school told Jamee to ask Darcy if she would be interested in a baby sitting job for her baby. She then went hone and told Darcy about the job, and being that her boyfriend was leaving town, Darcy thought that she will have extra spare time to waste, so she said why not. When she called for the baby sitting job, she then had to visit her friend to see the baby and where she would be staying while she was baby sitting. One sighpost that i have seen was the fact that the boyfriend didnt listen really to what the girl Darcy was saying about him leaving, which was important. He tried to get away lowly by lowly. Next week i will tell you more about this story, keep logging on!!!

The book I am reading is Fatality. In this book there is a regular 15 year girl named Rose. Everything seems to be going well for her until the police come knocking at her door. They question her about a weekend four years ago when she was in the 7th grade. She says she does not know anything but they still take her diary just in case she wrote something that she might have forgotten. She does not want them to take her diary so when she sees her diary lying on the front seat of the police car with the door open and the keys in the ignition. She does something nobody could EVER imagine sweet, innocent Rose doing (signpost). She steals the police car. It is not llegal for her to drive so she is so scared about the consequences. Then she goes to different fast food places and rips out the last few pages of her diary and flushes down the toliet. Why?? What happened that weeekend? One signpost was when Rose took stole the police car. I would have NEVER imagine her staling the car. She was a really good student at school and she never do anything bad.

I'm guessing that the ten people that go to the island are all going to die from paranoia and end up killing them self’s. The train ride is so many pages long, so far there is no signpost.

I am reading Everlost by Neal Shusterman. The setting takes place in Everlost, which is "somewhere between life and death". So far the characters introduced were Nick and Allie (both the protagonists who were siblings and who just arrived in Everlost). Other characters were Lief (an afterlight who helps them out), Mary Hightower (who is considered a god to many), and Johnnie-O and his gang (who were afterlights that liked to pick on the Greensouls, like Nick and Allie). The problem in the story is that after the car accident Nick and Allie both go to a place called Everlost where they are not completely dead yet. It is a dangerous place where a lot of lost souls wonder wildly and anyone who stands in the same place for too long sinks to the center of the Earth. Their mission is to get out of this strange place to find their family. A signpost appeared when the author was describing what happened after the accident. Both Nick and Allie didn't know where they were going, spinning around in a dark place. They saw the "light at the end of the tunnel" but suddenly it disappeared and they dropped to the ground. This was a signpost to me because it drew my attention. I will be looking for where they ended up going. A conflict so far was person vs. person because Allie and Nick were trying to decide what to do. They were thinking about exploring the world as an afterlight or staying in Everlost and playing it safe.

The book I am reading is called Stormbreaker. It is the first book in the Alex Rider series. It is about a boy named Alex Rider who had an uncle who worked for the Royal and General bank. One day, Ian Rider(Uncle of Alex) was killed in a car accident. While Alex was at the funeral Ian's boss, Mr. Blunt, came up to Alex and introduced himself. After Alex got home, a van with the name Stryker and Son had just left his house. Alex had no idea why this was here so, he went into his uncle's office and everything was gone. Someone has wiped out everything about Ian Rider. Alex was very suspicious so he goes down to the Stryker and Son junkyard where he finds his uncle's BMW. After observing the car and seeing bullet holes, Alex finds out that this was a murder which was covered up. With this information, Alex heads down to the bank and talks with Mr. Crawley. Alex is sent to a suspicious room next to Ian Rider's office ,and knows he must break into the office and find out what's really going on. Alex successfully gets into his office and looks around. He finds many files, one of which is labeled STORMBRERAKER. While reading ,two men walk into the room. One of which has a gun. Alex starts asking many questions and before he knows it, one of the men shoots him. Alex wakes up in a beautiful room outside of London and is asked to meet Mr. Blunt for lunch. During the lunch, Blunt explains how the accident and Royal Bank is a cover up. Rider really worked for the Special Operations Divisions of M16. Mr. Blunt explained Ian's last mission to Alex. There was a man named Herod Sayle. He was building some sort of computer like devise called the Stormbreaker. M16 felt uneasy about this ,so sent in Ian. On the way back to M16, Ian was shot. Mr. Blunt believed that he had found out the truth about Stormbreaker. With Alex knowing this, Mr. Blunt asked Alex to join M16 and finish Ian's job. Alex agreed, and began at once. Alex goes in in 2 weeks as a boy named Felix Lester to find out the truth about Stormbreaker.

Will he get caught or succeed?

My Book is A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
My book is about a young girl named Meg. Both of her parents are scientists and her father is off on what she is told is a “classified mission”. She has younger siblings; a pair of twins and a brother, Charles Wallace. Although the town calls her family weird, they are quite brilliant. The twins are average kids; however Charles Wallace is a genius. He is very advanced for his age and can already talk in full sentences although he is very young. Calvin is a friend of Meg’s, and he has the same gift as Charles Wallace. One day, he takes Meg and Calvin to an abandoned shack. Here, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which and Mrs. Who reside. The old, somewhat odd ladies actually turn out to be from a distant galaxy. They have retrieved the kids from Earth to help save Meg’s father, who is in trouble. They take them to other galaxies through time travel, the tesseract, the fourth dimension. As the story goes on, it turns out that they must save Meg’s father from a dark force. So far there are two signposts that stand out to me. One is that Meg keeps saying how she is very unattractive. I am looking for a point where she boosts her self esteem and feels better about herself. The other is that Meg’s mom seems to be sighing and upset whenever they talk about her dad. However, she will not tell why. I am looking for a point in which she reveals why she is acting like this.

I book I am reading is called I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You, by Ally Carter. This book is about a student at the Gallagher Academy For Exceptional Young Women. You may think this is your typical private school for geniuses, but it is not. It is a school for spies. Cammie Morgan is the headmistresses daughter. During the new semester an unexpected code red strikes. Cammie and her friends have to show Macey McHenry around the school and not give away any hints that this is not an ordinary school. For this to happen the schools pictures, awards, and statues are swapped into the walls and replaced with non suspicious ones. When Macey decides to join this school she freaks out when she is told the truth. She almost leaves, but when the headmistress tells her she can not tell anyone, even her parents she smiles. The girls have to learn many languages, and martial arts in PE. Most of all keeping the secret about their school. With many new students can everyone hold on to the schools secret?

Hey you guys! The book I'm reading is called "Angels In Pink, Kathleen's Story." The main characters in this book are, Kathleen, Raina and Holly. The protagonist is Kathleen. Raina has volunteered the three girls to volunteer at the local hospital for the enitre summer. Kathleen is completely against this idea, but decides to do it anyways, so she can get away from her mother, who has been diagnosed with M.S. for the past 15 or so years, for a couple hours of her summer. At the hospital, Kathleen meets Carter, a boy who wouldn't be volunteering unless his parents hadn't made him to make up for his bad behavior. Although Kathleen has never been interested in "bad boys," she finds herself attracted to Carter, possibly because he shows he's attracted to her. Carter keeps trying to talk to Kathleen and get her attention, but she continues to go on not noticing it, because she knows she has no time in her life right now for relationships. Raina and Holly are sure Kathleen likes Carter, she just won't admit it to either one. But when they're all invited to one of Carter's parties in his mansion, Kathleen sees the real kind of person he is, and convinces herself not to like him even more.

I have spotted some signposts in the story. One is that Holly's parents are very protective of her, and barely let her do anything, meanwhile her brother can do practically whatever he wants. I have to look for how protective they are of her. Also, another signpost is that, at the party, Carter and another girl seemed to be in a relationship, but he continues to show that he has feelings for Kathleen. I have to notice if he hangs out with the other girl anymore, and if he does, does he still say he's interested in Kathleen?
This book is really good and I would recomend it to practically anybody! I'm really enjoying it so far!

The book that I am reading is called Bloomability, by Sharon Creech. It is about a girl, named Domenica Santolina Doone; Dinnie for short. She thinks that she had two lives (which is really just her one life being broken up into two parts). The first part of her life is when she used to live in almost every state, at different times. This is because Dinnie's dad kept finding new jobs, and therefore, new places to live. But, everything was going wrong. Her sister, Stella, was pregnant, her brother, Crick, was in jail, and her dad was trying, once again, to find a new and better job. This was the end of her first life, and the start of her second. Now, Dinnie was forced to live with her aunt and uncle in Switzerland. Her mom said that, "This is for the better." While going to school in her new country, Dinnie met two new friends, named Guthrie and Lila. At first, Lila was a very friendly, and nice person. But now, she has become a person with a bad attitude, and is very obnoxious. Now, Dinnie has to make the choice whether to be her friend.
Will Dinnie make the right choice?

I actually found one signpost, and it interested me. Dinnie's family decided to have her live with her aunt and uncle. Her dad did not say goodbye, and Dinnie's family made her leave before Stella had her baby. Is there something that her family is hiding? Most families do not make their daughter just go off and live with a relative. There must be something brewing in the Doone family.

I just started reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. This book began with Harry almost turning 17 which means the protective spell that was put on him when he was a baby, will be off. This means that Voldemort could finally kill Harry. To protect him, a few members of the Order of the Phoenix would make duplicates of Harry and send them in different directions. This would distract the Death Eaters from finding the real Harry. Once all the people arrived to the house that has a protective spell on it, Harry, Ron and Hermione go into a room and start talking. While talking, Harry starts talking about before Dumbeldore died, he he gave Harry a very nimportant mission. He want Harry to find and destory the rest of the Horcuxes. After Harry told them, Ron and Hermione suggested that they should come with Harry. Eventhough Harry thought it was dangerous, he said yes. A few days later they made their ecsape in hopes of finding the Horcuxes.

As I kept reading on, I noticed a very important signpost. Through the first few chapters of the book, Ron has been acting very sweet to Hermione like conforting her when she was crying. In the past six book, Ron has always been annoyed at Hermione for being a big smarty pants. So why all of the sudden has he acts sweet to her? Does he like her? I hope I will find out. In the future I will keep looking for signs of Ron acting sweet the Hermione.

I am reading the book My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. The story mostly takes place at home and the hospital. Kate Fitzgerald is sick with a chronic disease, Leukemia. Her sister Anna is her donor and is in the hospital as much as a patient would be. Anna is tired of having to miss out on a lot of things in her life because she has to be at the hospital giving blood, bone marrow, etc. to her sister. She doesn't know what to do anymore. Her parents have never even asked her if she was okay with being her sister's donor. When she is about to have a kidney taken out of her for a kidney transplant she finally takes control. She files a law suit against her parents for never taking her opinion or how she feels. One signpost I came across is the fact that Anna is filing a law suit to make her own decisions whether or not to safe her sister's life. It made me wonder why she would do this if her sister was her best and only friend.

I the book I am reading is called 19 Minutes. The main character, Josie Cormier, was prepared for another terrible day of life. Though she was the most popular girl in school, and had a boyfriend, Matt, that she always hung out with, it didn't stop her from hiding sleeping pills under her desk. Josie and her mom Alex, a judge, live in a small town where everybody knows eachother and everyone. Alex is way to consumed in work to spend time with Josie, who continuously is getting lonelier and lonelier as the days pass. Weird how such a popular girl could be so unhappy. Well the ordinary day of school quickly took a turn for the horrible, when there is an awful school shooting. Peter Houghton had brought about 5 guns to school, though supposedly he only used two. As Patrick, the brave police officer on the scene, was running down the hallways to catch the shooter, he passed some of the unlucky victims of the shootings. When Patrick fround Peter crouched up in the locker room about to shoot himself, he pounced and prevented one more kid from death. On his way back downstairs to assess the situation, he passed Josie, who had not been shot, but grazed on the shoulder. Next to her laid a boy, shot twice. Patrick thought, he must have hated this kid the most of all. Later in the story after going over all the evidence, the police realized that Peter only used 2 of the guns, but one of the fired guns did not have his fingerprints on it. This was a signpost to me because it was the first evidence to me that this might have been a set-up, or a framing of Peter. Josie is at a hard time in life, knowing how her boyfriend Matt is dead, she swallowed all of her sleeping pills, but they just didn't seem to do it. One was the worst to her was her mom, was finally trying to act like a parent.

The book im reading is called All American Girl. This book is about this girl named Samantha. She lives in Washington.Samantha has two sisters one named Lucy who is the most popular girl in school and a sister named Rebbeca who is a genius. Samantha is kind of an outcast at school, who wears all black, and takes all of her feeling out in art class. Samantha's mom signed her up for art claases so that she could improve. Samantha went to her first art class and even made a new friend. He art class was going good until the teacher "picked on" her work when it was clearly better than everyone eleses. Samnatha now hates art class and when she has to go next week she decides to skip it. Samantha decides to get a cookie and go to a local CD store. While in there she notices a strange man in a camoflauge trench coat checking his pockets and his watch. Samantha doesn't think much of it abd just leaves. When she leaves so does the starnge man. Samntha was about to get picked up when she notices the road is blocked off beacause the president is coming. All of a sudden a black limo stops in front of her and a ton of secret agents come out. Its the president stopping to get a cookie! Samantha waits for the president to walk in when she notices the man take out a gun from his pocket. Samantha thinking fast jumps on the guy while he shoots so he wont hurt the president. Samantha succeds a and the president is safe making her soddenly popular and a hero. Many things happen after this but you will have to read to find out :)

A signposts I found was when they strange man in the cd store was looking in his pocket and checking his clock. I already know why he did this but some things I would look for are:
what he was trying to do,why was he doing it, and i'd try to look for the guy in the story again.

Hi! the book i am reading is "For One More Day" by Mitch Album. So far this book is great. The main characters name is Charley "Chick" Benetto. Charley's life has been going completely downhill since his mother died. Alcohol and regret took over his life. He lost his job and leaves his family. What really made the last part of him that was still standing crumble to the ground is that he was completely shut out of his own daughters life. They haven't spoken is years and then he found out that he wasn't even invited to her wedding. Charley hit rock bottom. He was planning to take his own life. Charley made a trip to his small home-town where he plans to kill himself. Before he got to his location he got in a car accident. When he got out of the car and walked for a while he ended up at the house that he grew up in. When he arrived he was welcomed home by his mom like nothing had ever happened. Charley thought he was imagining things because he drank so much. His mom was dead but somehow standing right in front of him.
I think that Charley somehow seeing his mom is a signpost because maybe she "came back" to teach Charley a lesson or to put his life back on track and heading in the right direction. This book is great and i recommend it to anyone!

The book I am reading is called Lost & Found, by Jacqueline Sheehan. The book is about a women named Rocky who worked with kids as a phsycologist and her husband was a vet. One morning Rocky found her young husband lying dead on the bathroom floor from a heart attack. She preformed CPR and an ambulance rushed him to the hospital, but he was not saved. Even though Rocky did everything she could have, she still felt the guilt and suffered from great depression. To escape her past and move on, Rocky decided to take a leave of absence from her job and move to an island where no one knew her. At the island she got a job as an Animal Control Warden and she met her new friends Isiah, Charolette and Tess. One day she got a call that there was a sick lab by the beach. She went the same day to the beach and found the lab next to the dumpster with an arrow in its chest. She brought the lab to the nearest animal hospital where the vet started surgery immediately. After the surgery and after the dog recovered, the vet showed Rocky the arrow that he pulled out. It turns out that the arrow was handmade. That was a signpost to me that someone would take the time to make a beautiful handcrafted arrow just to shoot an innocent dog. While I am reading, I will see if Rocky encounters anyone crafty. Rocky decided she would be the foster owner for the lab until the real owners are found. When they are at home Rocky is curious about the dog's unknown past. This is the start of her new life and we will see what happens next!

The book I am reading is called Flawless by Sara Shepard. This is the second book in a four-book series. Each chapter is told by a differnt characters point of view. The main characters are Spencer, Hanna, Aria and Emily. They all once were best friends. After their best friend Ali disapeered at the end of seventh grade, the girls lost touch and separated into different cliques. Now high school juniors in an exclusive private school in Rosewood Pennsylvania, they each are recieving mysterious text messages, e-mails, and notes from a person who goes by "A". Somehow, A knows all the secrets that the girls have kept all of these years and now. A is making the girls do whatever she says or she'll tell everyone all of the secrets past and present. After Spencer, Hanna, Aria and Emily's old friend Ali's body is found, they discuss all the text messages they have been getting. Everyone's a suspect but since Ali is dead... who could A possibly be? All girls secrets that only Ali knew are being thrown back at them. A signpost I noticed is that Spencer knew something about who could've killed Ali and she didn't share it with the girls. Wouldn't she want to help solve this mystery? What Spencer knew about Ali must've been very serious. When the texts start to become more and more threatening, the girls start to wonder if they're in real danger. So far, the book is great and each page just gets more and more addicting!

Hi Mr. Haase! The novel I am reading is named “Vampire Plagues London, 1850” by: Sebastian Rook. This book is about a twelve year-old boy named Jack Harkett. He lives in London and he poor, so he must find or “stoop low” and steel money in order to get food. Though he is homeless, but majority of the time he is on the London docks and this feels like home to him. One day when he was on the dock he sees a foreign ship pulling up into a dock. To him it looks like it has many riches on board. He was thinking of stealing it when the crew and captain left to go and eat after a week long voyage. He decides to hide in the bushes and exam the ship from far without getting caught so he won’t get in trouble. He views the ship and then saw that all the crew members left and then his conscious told him to wait and he did and then saw a boy who looked starved and dehydrated running away from the ship. Jack runs after this boy expecting that he was running away and he was he was going to turn him in for loot after he caught him. Jack changed his mind when this skinny, starving boy explained what he was doing. His name was Benedict Cole whose father is famous and named Harrison Cole. Ben (for short) explained about his expedition and what he expected to happen. He believes his father’s friend Sir Donald had disturbed a Mexican god and this god followed them back to London. A signpost that I notice is that the bats awoke in the cave the cave collapsed and Sir Donald got stuck when the cave entrance got blocked. I think that the bats bit him and in a Mexican legend when you get bitten you act like a follower of the Mexican god.

As the two girls grow up Sylvie can not help wondering about her real daughter. She sets up a bank account for Rose with $25,000 in it because Rose's family is very poor. This is a signpost because it could lead Rose to finding out the truth about Sylvie. This money could also change Rose's life because her family is poor.

One signpost that happens in the book is when Butler gest shot. Although Artemis was supposed to get the bullet butler dove in the way. This is basically a signpost in the book I was reading.

My book is called Lorna Doone. It takes place way back in the past. So far, the narrarator, John Ridd, has been through many things.First, his ather has been killed by the Doone's men. The Doone Family is the richest family in the town, and also the most dangerous. When crossing the front gate that leads to their land, people are always very cautious about the sounds they make. The family is very large, and their men are always attacking people because off misunderstandings. Anyway, the father dies, and John is only thirteen. Two years later, John decides to go up the river by his house to get loaches (fish) for his still grieving mother. When he goes up, he decides to be brave and go even further up, even though he will have to go into the Doones property. When he sneaks in, he sees a little girl sitting on the river side. She is Lorna Doone, the daughter of the head Doone. He eventually has to go back home, and they hope to see each other again. A few days later, John's father's cousin comes to their house with their horse. That is how far I got. I sign post that I found was that John's mother is always fighting with others, or misunderstanding them. I will surely look out for other details that couls make the mother so unhappy all the time. I understand that she could be upset because of the death of her husband, but do people still grieve for someone after five years?

The book I am reading is called Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut (Jr.) It's basically a faux autobiography by an American man named Howard Campbell who faked being a Nazi and because extremely notorious. Now in jail, he writes of his journeys and experiences. There isn't really a problem in the story-- Howard Campbell is just mocking a wacky world. One signpost I found while reading Mother Night is how one of the characters, Bernard Mengel, describes how he felt nothing different in tieing leather straps around a ex-nazi's ankles before hanging him and tieing a leather strap around his suitcase. He got so that he couldn't feel anything, and every job was like every other job, nothing better, nothing worse. I hope to finish with Mother Night soon. I can't keep my hands off it. =)

I am about half way through with the novel "The Kite Runner", by Khaled Hosseeini. It takes place in Kabul, a large city in Afganistan throughout 1970-present time. In the book Amir, the protagonist, is a wealthy boy who has a friend named Hassan. Hassan is actually his servant because of his religion and low social class, which brought me to a signpost that that was just present decades ago, probably even today. Amir and Hassan grew up doing everything together, and they had established a true bond. Then came the day that a kite fighting tornament was held in Kabul. Amir had won, and Hassan went to "run the kite", or track down where it lands and give it to Amir as a trophy, as was the custom. When Amir found Hassan, he was trapped in an alley surrounded by three fierce bullies. Hassan stood his ground to protect the kite for Amir. Amir was too cowardly to step in and help, for the next thing that happened to Hassan made me jam on the brakes, twice. With decent description, one of the boys had raped Hassan, with Amir watching. It astounded me that this could actually happen, and it astonished me that Amir didn't step in or do anything to help Hassan. This haunted Amir for the rest of his life, that Hassan would do anything for him, and he would just stand there as Hassan was receiving the ultimate punishment for himself. Another signpost that stopped me was when one day, Amir actually framed Hassan in order to get rid of him and his guilt. To Amir's displeasure, he actually admitted that he did do it! Even when Amir's father forgave them, they still decided to leave. Amir is now a grown man with a wife and an accomplished writer, but the burden of having this sin on his back is tormenting him. His wife even confessed to doing a terrible thing when she was eighteen, making him feel even worse. It also didn't make sense why after she confessed her deepest secret, that he wouldn't let out his. Now they are back in Kabul, and I am waiting to see what happens, if anything, between the two, long, lost friends. I know that what happened was an extreme, but I don't understand why Amir won't just confess to Hassan and be happy again, for ir ruinned a good five years of Amir's childhood.

The book I am ready at the moment is The fall of Reach, by Eric Nylund. The book is about this military experiment with children. They start by training the kids at age 7. This was known as the SPARTAN project. Anyways the main characters are the John, Commander Jacob Keyes and Admiral Stanforth. There are many settings, earth and a bunch of sectors and colony planets that would take to long to name. The main conflict is the humans against this unknown species that was given the name "the covenant". After the first encounter with this race, the humans have been trying to upgrade their technology. One covenant ship was an equivilant to three destroyers. As the humans realize their defeat after one planet was destroyed, they start to deploy SPARTANS into the battlefield. A signpost in this story was when John or Spartan 117's squad member and best friend died saving everyone. Their mission was to infiltrate the covenant ship and destroy it from the inside. They all had air tight suits that protected them from the vacuum of outer space. Sam was shot by a covenant plasma rifle that damaged his suit and created a hole. This meant he could not enter space. They proceeded with the mission and planted the bomb inside. Sam decided to stay behind and fend the covenant off until the bomb detonated. John and another squad member Kelly left safely as they saw the ship implode with their ally and best friend inside. Then John recalled what his officer told him in training. "There is a difference between a life spent and a life wasted", John then thought of which it was, life spent or wasted. He chose life spent well. I hope later in the book there will be more combat and acts of desperation and heroism.

I am reading a book called Dive by Gordon Korman. It is about three kids who are diving to find treasure from the sunken ship, the Griffin. It was all going well until a freak accident happened during a dive. The captain died in the accident and a 17 million dollar submarine was lost. Star, the girl with a limp, tried to save the captain but had gone down too fast and got the bends. Up to now, she can't walk because her brainwaves can't go through because she has nitrogen bubbles in her body. Kaz and English try to find the captain's body in 250 feet of water. They have to use three tanks of different gas which weigh 150 pounds. Kaz is only 13 so this is very heavy for him. They found the captain's body and brought it to the top. Unfortunately, decompression took two hours! The current was strong at the top and Kaz let go of the anchor line because he saw a shark. The shark was a herbivore, but he didn't know that until he let go. He was waiting in the ocean for an hour or so until Dante and Adriana came by on an inflatable speed boat. This is where I'm up to, but this is a great book. I've got my face buried in it.

So far it is a good book i think it is a 9/10 right now. But i think it will become a 10/10.

The book that I am reading is "Evil Star" by Anthony Horowitz. The main character, Matthew Freeman, lived in this old and smelly housewith a woman Gwenda Davis and her boyfriend Brian Conran. Matt went to a sleepaway school called Forest Hill located half between York and Harrgate. He did not enter the school with a good start. He was watched by this man Richard.Teachers found him lazy and he is bullyed by another student named Taylor Gavin. As school goes on there is a lot of wiered things happening. For example, a mysterious thing happened in the lunch room. One of Taylers frinds tripped Matt and he started to get mad and embarressed. The chandiliar suddenly falls from the ceiling and shatters, cutting Taylors hands and face. As the year starts to go by, Matt relizes that a lot of unusual things start to happen.

Hi Mr. Haase it's Brennan from your period 2 class. My book is called "Slam" by Walter Dean Myers. This kid named Greg Harris "Slam"(his nickname) is a very good basketball player. He has just transferred to a new school and is getting very bad grades. His Grandma is very sick and usually visits her everyday. He recently tried out for the school Latimer's basketball team and made it. but the coach doesn't like him very much. A signpost would be that Greg practices hard at his schools practices and he will do very well in his upcoming game. He is very dedicated to playing basketball because he feels that it his only good thing going for him and I feel that he will lead his team to the championship.

Hey. The book I am reading is "What if you broke all the rules"! Although I am only in the few chapters of my book I think it is a bit interseting. First Haley will turn 16 on Valentine's Day. She is very excited but doesn't think there will be any big parties because her parents have forgotten her birthday entirely. Haley's dad is to focused on finishing his documentary and Haley's mom is spending way too much time with a former coworker. Besides that she is in love with the boy next door, Resse. He is smart, athletic and cute. Haley has a lot of friends, but from different groups. She has the saturday night movie night friends and the party friends, who like to get drunk. New Years eve Haley was invited to Spencer's New year's eve party. Spencer is another cuttie, that Haley has a crush on. Coco, the party girl get's drunk at the party and admits her true feelings about Resse. Haley is embrassed but Resse turned her down.
The big Hawks game is coming up and Resse wants Haley to come. Haley was also invited to go to Spencer's fun riser party where there wil be an open bar. Haley has now came miss popular and doesn't know which one to go to. Will haley pick spencer over Resse, or will she choose Resse over Spencer?
Signpost:
I didn't understand why Haley is in love with Spencer but acts like Reese and her are so close. They hold hands once in a while and give check kisses. She is still very confused on who to pick.
I would want to look for clues that Haley gives off. Like does she show her more flirty side with Resse or with Spencer.
Well I guess will find out as the book goes along!!!

I am reading the book Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. This is the first book in the four book series, Twilight. Isabella Swan moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona to rainy Forks, Washington to start a new life so her mother, Renee, can travel with her new husband, Phil Dwyer, a "strictly minor league" baseball player. Even though she never had many friends in Phoenix, Bella quickly discovers she is the new subject of curiosity at her new school in Forks, where she is quickly befriended by several students. Much to her dismay, several boys in the school compete for shy Bella's attention. Bella finds Forks dull, boring, and just plain horrible. She hated the ever-raining city as a child, and even referred to it in Twilight as her "own personal hell on earth". However, the one exception to her boring life in Forks is Edward Cullen, the gorgeous and mysterious boy she sits next to in her Biology class. She hears 'ridiculous' rumors that Edward and his family are more than "beautiful humans", but despite having many theories she cannot bring herself to believe that there is a supernatural explanation for Edward's behavior. She finds out that he is a vampire and starts to fall in love with him because she simply likes everything about him. They know they can't be together becuase Edward can be dangerous to humans and Bella is a human. Soon, the decide to be together and care for eachother. They leave the thought ofhim being a vampire aside and Bella doesn't care. All she needs is him by her side.

"Black Like Me" is the story of a white guy who enetred the world of the blacks in America to discover their true way of living and how are they treated by whites and what they really are about, by lookig from their own side. To achieve that, John Howard Griffin decided to become one of them by getting literaly their black skin and way of talking, and moving into black sections of Louisiana and Mississippi. He assumes new name and tries to fit in. He experiences all aspects of black life in America. The way of eating, dressing, talking, relaxing and enjoying music, dance and other people. Griffin cocnentrated on the relationship between blacks and whites and noted different reactions dependig where the encounters with whites took place or what type of people he met. Sometimes he was badly treated and humiliated and sometimes he was feeling the cold type of respect out of the fear by whites or just politness. Griffin was an educated person, a writer, someone inquisitive with deep understanding of life and interests to explore things and human behavior. Griffin was determined to do the things the right way. He went to the house of his friend in Louisiana where he was staying for several weeks while undergoing the change of his skin color. Then he moved to a black section on New Orleans where his explorations as an African American started. I am looking forward to see how his life will turn out and what he will learn from changing his skin color.

I am reading New Moon which is the 2nd book of the Twilight saga by Stephanie Myer. This book is set in a small town named Forks. In this book a girl name Bella Swan is in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. Edward and his family who are vampires as well throw Bella a party for her 18th birthday. At the party, Bella opens one of her presents and gets a small paper cut on her finger and a little drop of blood comes out. Jasper, who is the newest member of the Cullen family can't control his thirst and lunges towards Bella. Edward pushes Bella away in an attempt to save her and she lands on a glass table leaving her a bigger wound on her arm. Luckily everyone evacuates the room, Edwards "father" Carlisle stitches her up and she is saved. One signpost that I noticed is that Edward leaves Bella after the experience taking all pictures of her pictures and presents he ever gave her leaves her with only the memories in her head. He decides she is better off without him.

The book I am reading is called "Prom", by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book is about two girls who try and save prom night. Ashley Hannigan and Natalia Shulmensky have been best friends since middle school. Ashley isn't too bright and doesn't care about school. Her boyfriend is a dropout, named T.J., Ashley has many detentions to make up. She has three brothers and another one on the way. On the other hand, Natalia, or Nat for short, is an A+ student. She does every extracurricular activity possible and is head of the prom committe. Nat is Russian and lives with her dad and her crazy grandma. Nat moved next door to Ashley after her parents got divorced. This is when Ashley and Nat became good friends. They both go to Carceras High School which isn't one of the best schools. One of the faculty members stole all the prom money and now it is not likely that Carceras is going to have a prom. With only a week left before prom, Ashley, who didn't even want to go to the prom in the first place, decides to help her friend Nat with prom. Ashley, Nat and the rest of the prom committee are in for it. Everyone, including Principal Banks and the Assistant Principal Mr. Gilroy, is panicking. With Ashley's list of detentions she isn't too much of a fan of Mr. Gilroy. Mr. Gilroy is out to get Ashley. He is debating whether or not to even let Ashley go to the prom meanwhile she practically planned the whole thing. Will the prom be ready in time for graduation and more importantly, will Ashley get to go?

Some sign posts I saw was when Ashley volunteered to help out with prom. She doesn't seem like the kind of person who would want to help out her school. It's not like she was forced to help out, she volunteered. She doesn't even want to go to prom. Another signpost I saw was that Nat and Ashley are friends. They are so different. Nat is smart while Ashley is not.

The book i am reading is called "Perfect" by Sara Shepard. This is the third book in a four-book series. The main characters in this book are Hannah, Aria, Emily, and Spencer. Each chapter is told by a different character's point of view. These four girls were all once best friends, until their other best friend, and the leader of their "clique" Ali disapeared at the end of seventh grade. Now the four girls lost touch with eachother, seperated and made new friends. They are now high school juniors in a private school in Rosewood, Pennsylvania. They are each recieving mysterious and threatening text messages, notes, and emails anonomously from a person who referes him/herself as "A". Somehow, "A" knows all of the girls deepest secrets that only their best friend Ali knew. If the girls don't do what "A" she says, "A" will blackmail them. Ali's body has been discovered under ground in her old house's backyard. At Ali's funeral, Emily, Aria, Spencer, and Hannah meet again and figure out that "A" is haunting all of them. Since they know for sure Ali is not alive, they wonder.. who could "A" possibly be? How does she know all of their secrets that only Ali knew? Is "A" Ali's murderer? I can't wait to find out what happens next.. this book gets more and more addicting. I recommend this to any teenage girl because it is a fun mystery series.

My book is called I Am Third. This book is about a famous football player named Gale Sayers. It is also the inspiration for the book Brian's Song. He played football for the Chicago Bears. As a young boy, his family had many troubles. He is the middle child in a family that has three boys. His mother and father did not have good incomes. At one point they did but his parents moved so they had to find new jobs. The new jobs they got were very low paying. In eight years they had moved nine times. In the middle of all of this, his parents started drinking a lot. Plus, his mom would sometimes leave the house for a long time because his parents were always fighting. Now lets skip ahead a couple of years. When Gale joined the Bears he went through many good, fantastic, and terrible times. In his first four years in professional football, Gale made it into the pro bowl four times. In his first year, he earned the rookie of the year honor. In his third year of professional football, he went through what was probrably the worst event of his life. He was injured when he got hit in his knee. The doctor said that he had just had the worst injury possible and that his carer was over. Gale would not except this, so he worked as hard as he could until his knee was back to normal. It took him one year to get back to normal, but he still feels pain in his knee every once in a while. One signpost that I saw so far is that he said that his knee still hurts him so maybe his knee will affect his career again.

In the novel Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz, there's a TON of mystery and secrets. Not only are there extremely wealthy Manhattanites, but they also happen to be vampires!!! Okay,so it starts out with the protagonist,Shuyler Van Alen, going to a dance club with her best friend, Oliver. They both go to the Duchesne School, which is apparently THE most prestigious private school in all of New York. As you get more and more into the story, you begin to realize that all of the main characters and some other characters are all descendents from the pilgrims who landed on the Mayflower. As it turns out, these are the oldest and most powerful families in New York, who are also vampires.Right there SHOULD'VE been a signpost, but since the author pretty much threw it at you in the summary,it's not. The most powerful out of ALL of the families however,is Charles Force. His children are Mimi and Jack Force who go to the Duchesne School with Schuyler too. Mimi and Jack are the ultimate popular kids in the Duchesne School, they're SO popular,in fact, that they hang out with models and actors alike regularly. Yet,Schuyler and Oliver have never fit into their crowd, and quite honestly, don't want to. Schuyler and Oliver genuinely like being themselves and find Mimi and Jack extremely snobbish. I am only up to the tenth chapter, but so much has happened, that I'm definitely occupied with the plot as it is. This seems like an incredibly good book and I think it will only get better!

The book I am reading is called "Stormbreaker". It is about a boy named Alex Rider who joins the MI6. His uncle was shot and killed before he joined. He actually new nothing about his uncle being in the MI6 before he was shot. So when Alex joined he was only fourteen. He was sent to a training camp for two weeks. After the camp he started where his Uncle left off. His uncle had been watching a man by the name of Herod Sayle, a multi millionaire who is designing a new type of a computer called the Stormbreaker. Herod Sayle is the protagonist of the story. He is donating Stormbreaker's to every elementary in England. The MI6 doesn't trust him though. Thats why Alex was sent in.
One signpost I see in my story is that the MI6 sent a fourteen year old boy on an extremely dangerous mission. You would never expect a governmental organization to put a fourteen year old boy's life at risk. You would expect them to put in a highly trained agent. This brings up another sign post. If the MI6 does put a fourteen year old in a mission you would expect them to train him for at least a month. But he only got two weeks. That is the basic problem of "Stormbreaker"

The book I'm reading right now is titled Midnighters, by Scott Westerfeld. Midnighters takes place in the strange town of Bixby, Oklahoma in present-day times. Bixby is not an ordinary town. There's a secret hour every night, that happens at the stroke of midnight. It belongs to the mysterious creatures who created it, called darklings, and passes by the average human in a moment, though it really is an hour. Only a select group of teenagers in Bixby have the ability to move in the secret hour; at midnight.-- The ones who were born EXACTLY at midnight. They call themselves midnighters.
The main character in Midnighters is Jessica Day, a typical girl who moves to Bixby, unaware of the secret time, for it only occurs in Bixby, as far as the midnighters can tell. She's spotted by Rex, the establisher and self-proclaimed leader of the midnighters. He and his two best friends, Melissa and Dess, try their best to find out the mystery behind Jessica-- darklings are appearing everywhere, and are constantly attacking Jessica. Normally, these beasts leave the midnighters alone, but as soon as Jessica entered Bixby they've been dangerously ubiquitous.
Although darklings are afraid of certain things-- new material (mostly things like stainless steel), math (like the number thirteen), and thirteen-letter words, or thirty-nine-lettered phrases. To guard themselves from the darklings, midnighters carry around random steel items with thirteen-lettered names during the secret hour.
Soon, Jessica meets a boy named Jonathan, who later... does somthing that I'm wondering if I should mention, because it be something one wouldn't want to be given away.
Rex and Jonathan have a "personality conflict", though according to Jonathan, Rex should "get a new one". Melissa apparantly sides with Jonathan, while Dess tries to stay out of it. Jessica really likes Jonathan, and Jonathan does like Jessica back.
More importantly in this story, each midnighter has a specific power, with a special name. Dess is a polymath, a person with exceptional math skills. Melissa is a mindcaster, a psycic, though her conditions are horrible, and she describes hearing everyone's noisy thoughts all at once as being in a room with fifty radios blasting, all turned to different stations. Rex is a seer, a person who is able to spot people who have been "touched" by midnight (ex. other midnighters, things used in the secret hour). Along with finding out why the darklings are after Jessica, another problem is finding out what Jessica is.

Some signposts I've identified in the story are
- When Melissa starts to doubt Jessica, telling her that she's "so 11:59", and that she "doesn't belong". I'm going to look out for any conflicts between the two girls, or if Jessica really doesn't belong in the secret hour.
- When Jessica is looking at a tree, tracing her hands over the scratches that had been made when a darkling had tried to attack her and she had used that exact tree for protection, an old lady yells at her to get off her lawn. As Jessica apologies and hastily hurries off the unkempt grass, the lady yells back at her "not to come back tonight", signifying that she knew SOMETHING. I'm going to look out for the lady, if she makes another appearance as the book continues, or if she is an antagonist of some sort.

My book is called On The Run(1): Chasing the Falconers. The book is about two siblings named Aiden and Meg. They are staying at Sunnydale Farm which is a Department of Juvenile Corrections in Nebraska. Their parents are in a prison in Florida. Their parents were recruited for the CIA by a family friend named Frank Lindenauer. Frank managed to frame Aiden and Meg's parents for something they didn't do. Frank also disappeared after he had done this. Aiden and Meg both want to get out of Sunnydale Farm and follow a trail of clues to find Frank and prove their parent's innocence. They will both have to overcome many obstacles, such as, staying covered because if they leave the Farm they will be recognized as escaped criminals and when people see them they might call the cops on them. Another obstacle would be finding Frank. At Sunnydale, Aiden and Meg are pushed around by the other kids. One of the kids, named Miguel, had a crazy idea of doing something to the Farm, that will give the criminals a chance to escape. But Aiden thought it was nonsense. Even though I'm farther ahead in the book, I will stop here because something good will happen soon.

Some signposts I ran through in the book so far was that 1. What Miguel thought was a good idea, suddenly came true. But Miguel didn't do it... Aiden did.
2. When Meg was trapped and Aiden came to save her.

Moa and Rail are in a group of thieves, but Moa knows stealing is wrong, but they had to do it in order to make money and to survive. The signpost is that Moa and Rail find an ancient artifact that uses powers to create exits anywhere, Rail is freaked out about this and is having seconds thoughts about being with Moa when they were friends for a very long time.

The book I am reading is called Vanishing Act by John Feinstein. It is about two teenage reporters. One of them, Susan Carol, won a contest allowing her to go to the US Open in NY to write for a newspaper. Her friend Steven gets a little jealous. This book is part of a series. In the first book Susan Carol and Stevie win a writing contest and they win a trip to the Final Four in New Orleans. While there, they discover a plot to blackmail the best college basketball player. While writing an article they manage to catch the blackmailers. When Stevie gets jealous he asks an editor for a local newspaper to get him credentials to the Open. Stevie and Susan Carol meet eachother at the Open and begin to write their article. Again, a mystery follows them to the Open. An up and coming tennis player, Nadia Symanova, mysteriously vanishes while to the court. Stevie and Susan Carol try to solve this mystery and finish their article. A signpost that I noticed is that their should have been security guards in the tunnel to the court. How could she have disappeared with those security guys there? I have read any farther than this so I will stop right here.

Hey it's lakshmi G. from 5th period again. I finished reading the Other Book and started reading Breaking Dawn. So my blog will be about that book. Here is a little background information about my book. Breaking Dawn is the fourth book in the twilight series. In the last four books we learn that her love Edward is a Vampire. That her best friend Jake is a Werewolf. That Bella is targeted by the Vampire "royalty" the Volturi and that she has to be turned into a Vampire or be killed because she knows too much. She also wants to be turned into a vampire. She is offered by Edward's adopted vampire father to be turned into a Vampire when she graduates but what she really wants is for Edward to turn her into a vampire. But Edward's condition to turning her into a vampire is for her to marry him. But her best friend Jake tells her that he loves her. But Bella agrees to marry Edward, But the condition of her marring him is that they have a real honey moon. When this book begins Jake Bella's best friend and best man at the wedding has runaway and won't come home. But when Jake makes a surprise visit to the wedding reception things go horribly wrong because Bella accidently tells Jake that she and Edward are going to have a real honey moon before she is turned into a vampire. So when Bella comes home she is pregnant and with the help of Rosalie she is able to stop Edward and the rest of his family from forcing her to abort the baby, but now Edward is getting desperate to get the baby out of her because it is slowly killing her. If you want to know what happens you have to read the book.
One of the signposts in the book was when Bella became pregnant because the fact that vampires can't have off springs has been stated over and over again since the first book. So it was a shock to learn that vampires and humans can have children but the vampire has to be a boy. Another signpost is when Jake comes back to Bella at the wedding even though it hurt him to see her. Also in the previous book right before the end of the book Jake had already astabolished that he would live forever as a wolf and never come home.

Signposts I have discovered are:
-Even though Sergeant Hamblen is supposed to be a Quaker he kills Koreans. As the book goes on I will look to see if he goes against religion again.
-Even though Sergeant Hamblen is supposed to be a genuine man he steals food out of the back of an Army transport truck. He does this because his friends wanted him to.As the book goes on I will look to see if he is pressured into doing anything else.

Ok, let's get something straight.I didn't chose to read this book, my mom recommended it I wasn't there to judge and there was no book info on the back. This book is Fade by Robert Cormier.Don't read it. It's not good and may be inappropriate for english class.I'll try to sugar coat it as best as possible.
Anyway, the book is about a boy named Paul who lives in a small town in the 1940s. He is a normal boy who lives in a small town with his regular family. The only abnormal thing is a family picture where one of Paul's uncles is missing even though the family can be sure he was present at the time. Suddenly, out of nowhere, problems arise. First, Paul's aunt comes and this is awkward for Paul because he has "sexual" feelings for her even though he is 13 and she is much older. He finds it hard to confront his aunt at times for this reason. This was the first signpost a came upon because usual 13 year old children don't have "crushes" on family members. Paul's second problem is that his father works in a factory where he has been demoted.Third, Paul needs to find out from his uncle how he dissapeared years ago. It turns out (after a whole lot of "it doesn't make sense's/please i need to know's)Paul's uncle posseses a dissapearing power called the fade and Paul has inherited it. Paul then uses this power to spy and exploit crimes.(Bullies,petifiles,ect.)At the point in the story where I am he has used the dissapearing power to secretly enter a friend's house where he witnesses another inappropriate "sexual" act. I hate this book. The end of blog.

The book I am reading is called What if Everone knew your name, by Liz Ruckdeschel and Sara James. This book is about a girl named Haley Miller who had just moved to New Jersey, from San Fransisco, California. Haley and her family had just moved to New Jersey and Haley had just begaan to feel what "New Jersey life" is like. When Haley had pulled into the driveway of her new house, she wondered where all the "vote green" signs, and the solar panels and the blue recycle bins were. When Haley said this, her dad said,"I thought you were embarrassed of all that junk at our old house." Haley replied,"yes, at our OLD house." That house was a mess and it was soooo old. Haley then spotted a bunch of "hot" east coast boys at the house next door. She gaped at them for a while, then she got out of the car and after watching for about 20 seconds, the ball came across into her yard. The "hottest" boy came over to get the ball and as he did he greeted Haley. His name was Reese Highland the one who actually lives next door. He introduced the other 3 playing basketball with him as, Spencer, Drew and Jonny. The next day, Haley's first day of school in New Jersey, she waited at the bus stop because she wanted to score a seat next to Reese. But to Haleys suprise, up comes a white convertable of girls to take Reese to school. After that incident, Haley called her dad and BEGGED for him to pick her up and bring her to school since Reese would not be on the bus now. When Haley got dropped of by her dad, she went into the school and she met a girl named Annie Armstrong, who she followed to Spanish class. When they go to Spanish, After an introduction, they were assigned an area in spain to research. Haley had to decide between Annie, a friend who would help with the work and get a great grade on the project, or the popular girls who would probably make her do all of the work and risk getting a bad grade. Haley chose to wok with the popular girls, so they planned a time when they could work on the project together. When Haley got to Co Co's house, the "leader" of the popular crew, she went in and before they started working on the project, they ate chinese food that the 4 girls had ordered in. After a very small meal, each girl got a fortune cookie.
SIGNPOST: What the fortune coookie says.
WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: When an instance happens that has to do with what the fortune cookie said.
WHY IT IS A SIGNPOST: This is a signpost because the girs said that the fortunes from this specific resturaunt always come true. Something my be a chain reaction to what the fortune cookie said.

If you are interested in this book.

I am really enjoying this book! It is especially great because it is a choose your destiny novel, meaning, for every decision the character has to make, you make for them. But if you do read this book, your outcome may be different than mine because of the decisions you will make. To me, this makes the book more interesting. It is a book in a series. (i do not think the books are in any specific order, i am just reading them in the order they are written. you do not have to I just prfer it. HAPPY READING!

Im not sure if my last comment is posted. The book that I'm reading is a great book so far. The name of it is The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. The story takes place in Venice,Itaily. There are two boys their names are Bo and Prosper. At the beginning of the story they lived with their mean aunt and uncle, because they got parted from their parents. But they ran away from their family and now they are orphans. There are many signposts in this story so far, but there is one i still cant under stand (i think i will get it if i finish the book). The main signpost to me is that there is a man with a funny mustache searching for the boys that ran away. I have no clue who he is or why he's looking for them.

The point of view my book Gregor the Overlander is told is third limited. The reason I think my author tells the story from this point of view is so it is harder to catch signpost so that towards the end it is unexpected or ironic so that you can want to read the sequels and expect the unexpected. But I think my authors atitude towards gregor isthat he has alot of life-changing experiences ahead and that he is tough enough to handle it.

Bella is only 17 years old. Her new friends were Mike, Jess, Angela, Jacob, and Edward, but Bella is very suspicious of him. Edward saved her life from a van running into her. He stopped it with his bar hands. she finally figured what he really is and his entire family. Edward Cullen is a Vampire. Edward was adopted by Dr.Cullen. He's the richest man in Forks. Edwards entire family has pail skin. They only go out in the day if it rains , snows, or a cloudy day.

The book i am reading is pinochio. One signpost is when pinnochio meets the guy who makes him. He is very nice to pinnochio but pinnochio is very selfish and rude. He runs away and is very disrespectful. The maker tries hard to get him o e nice but pinnochio just doesn't care. so he gives up on him and lets him be on his own. Pinocchio has a tough time surviving on his own. He cant find food. He cant find a place to sleep. He is struggling to survive but I dont want to spoil the book so ill stop here. Raed the book and find out what happens.
